Climate and Geography of Argentina
The culture in Argentina matters where you are. You can be in the high Northwestern Mountains. Some are almost as high as 7,000 feet. 2,000 feet shorter than Mount Everest. In the northeastern side there are plains and woodlands. Also if you go far enough, there is a part of Argentina that is tropical rainforest. If you go south from the mountains you would be in desert. If you go even more south, all the way to the bottom of Argentina, you would be surrounded by ice in the tundra area.
Most people in Argentina live in plains by the Atlantic Ocean and the Parana River. That is where the capital is. People mostly live there because it is not too warm or cold. That lets them wear the latest European styles. They get to fish in the water and cut lumber from the woodland trees. Trading with ships was easy. The plains let them take care of the cattle and other animals. Argentina is known for its steak. They can do this because of the availability.
If you lived in Argentina it would matter what part you came from. Because of all the landscapes there are many cultures in Argentina. If you were from the tundra in the far south part of your culture would be wearing thick clothing. Or if you were from the desert region part of your culture would be making houses out of mud. Since the climate is not too warm or cold in the grasslands it lets people dress very fancy in their favorite European styles that they always wanted to wear or there comfiest clothes.

Why you should know
When you travel to Argentina, you want to bring a variety of clothes. You might want to bring snow boots for the tundra. Hiking boots are needed for the mountains. It is best to bring not so heavy clothes for the deserts. You can where your favorite clothes in the woodlands and plains. You can also bring torn up jeans so you don’t get scratched in the rain forest area.

Economy of Argentina
One of Argentina’s exports is fruits and vegetables. Argentina grows a variety of fruits and vegetables such as tobacco, lemons, soybeans, corn and wheat because of the different climates. Another reason that people live in the woodlands and plains is because of the vegetables that grow there. These are some items that they export from the country since it grows so well in Argentina. But some items they also are imported just as much as exported.
Argentina imports a lot of items exported are also imported but not all items imported are exported. Some items that are both imported and exported in Argentina are petroleum and gas along with motorized vehicles. Every item that is exported away (besides the agricultural plants) are just imported right back to the country along with other items like organic chemicals, and plastics and other machinery. They are imported into the country but not exported. Argentinians don’t have agricultural foods imported as much because one of the biggest industries in Argentina is working in farms and taking care of herds.
Argentina is not just working in the fields. Many people work in factories. There are also a lot of fishers, great athletes, archeologists, carpenters, etc. in Argentina. The one reason there are a lot of archeologists in Argentina is because most of the country are mountains and deserts. The rest of the jobs that I listed are easily done from the resources in the woodlands and plains and fishing can be done in the ocean and rivers nearby. The rest of the resources Argentina needs (more or less wants) it gets from the imports into the country.

Why you should know
When traveling to Argentina you will know that the fruits and vegetables are going to be freshly picked most of the time so you know that the food there (that is vegetable based) is going to be fresh and delicious. Also the fish and the meat will taste good because some of the main jobs people do are working in the fields and fishing.

Some Historical Moments and Figures of Argentina

Some historical moments shaped Argentina. One big moment for Argentina was in 1776 when Spain captured and controlled Argentina. This lead to why most Argentinians speak mainly Spanish. On July 9th 1816 Argentina broke off of Spain and became its own country. Argentina now had its own government. There was a part of land surrounded by Argentina that they did not control. This place was called Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires did not want to join Argentina but the government of Argentina really wanted the land. It was easy access to the Ocean. There were no cars or trains then. In 1859 Argentina took over Buenos Aires and is now their capital.
One Historical Figure was Juan Peron (1895-1971). He was one of Argentina’s presidents. He improved wages, working conditions and controlling rents and payment. He also created the Aguinaldo. It is a 13 month bonus. He was thought to be the best president Argentina ever had. One day he changed some policies that the army did not like. The army then tried to damage Juan Peron’s reputation and in a matter of days people were in a riot. He was overthrown and exiled from the country. His name became illegal.
Peron safely made it to Paraguay. But then Argentina needed a new leader. They elected Isabel Peron, Peron’s third wife, as president. She was not only the first woman to be a president in Argentina but the very first woman president in the world! She became president for the whole world to see that women are just as good as men and can take charge of something big and important. Before she was elected she accompanied Peron until his death in Madrid, Spain.
Why you should know
When going to Argentina you might know the background of the country like “why do they speak Spanish if Spain is so far away?” One important thing you might here is the name “Peron”. There were two important presidents who were known from that name.

Religions, Holidays, and Festivals in Argentina
Most of the population in Argentina is Roman Catholic. Argentina’s main religion came from the Spanish who ruled Argentina for a while. That means they will probably celebrate Christmas and Easter. They also acknowledge important people who lived in Europe like San Martin. You probably would not see many other religions but there are some German and Jewish communities. During World War two Argentina allowed the most Jews to come in South America but did not despise the few German communities in Argentina.
A lot of holidays that they have in Argentina we have in The U.S. like New Year’s and Christmas. Some we have the same but different days of the year like Labor Day (May 1st in Argentina), Flag Day (June 20th in Argentina) and Independence Day (July 9th in Argentina). Some we do not have here like the Anniversary of San Martin’s Death (August 17th In Argentina). Maybe we even have some that they don’t have in Argentina. They also celebrate the holidays a little differently than us.
They usually celebrate it by having street artists and performers showing their work about the special event. People would be playing songs, showing their paintings, showing their sculptures, or showing their made up or religious dance about the holiday. A lot of people come to see the galleries or performances all day long. It tells them a lot about the holiday. If I were to go on a holiday to Argentina I would have probably learned more than I could imagine about the holiday how important this holiday is.
Why you should know
When traveling to Argentina you know when their holidays are and how to celebrate them. If you want to see part of their culture or share your own work on holidays is the time to go. Also some background information on their religion and how it started.

Flag
Argentina_flag.gif

There are three bands on the flag. They are equal in size and horizontal. (From top to bottom) the colors are light blue, white, light blue again. There is a yellow sun with a face in the center of the flag. It is known as the sun of May. The colors of the three bands symbolize the snow and sky of the Andes Mountains. The sun symbolizes the sun of May 25th, 1810 when Argentina made their first act for independence. The face symbolizes the Inca god of sun, Inti.
